Vintage Antique Celluloid Brittany France Petitcollin Estate Collection Doll

Description

This beautiful doll comes from an estate collection that spans four generations.
She is a celluloid doll representing a region of France, probably Brittany, in traditional costume.
A special detail is the golden cross necklace.
She is wearing a lovely black dress with long sleeves, embellished with gold trim, rust ribbon, and lace, plus a lace cap, blue silk ribbon sash, and lace apron. She has a lace-trimmed cotton slip and panties, painted black shoes and socks. Her face is carefully hand-painted in a graceful pose.  Her blond mohair wig holds its original curls; please note traces of glue on the back of the hair as shown in the photo. This doll is very similar to marked Petitcollin dolls. Any
marks on this doll are hidden by the clothing, which is stitched on and not removable.
Celluloid dolls are extremely fragile, and this one has survived the years in original condition.
She is complete minor damage; please note the tiny cracks in one foot, as shown in the photos.   Please review all photos as an important part of the description.
Here is some information on the provenance of the collection which may help with the age and source of the dolls. Great grandmother "Noni" was born in Scotland in the 1860's, attended the University of California at Berkeley in the 1880's, went to Europe to study for a time, and then married and returned to Princeton, New Jersey. Her sister and brother were both missionaries in China and India, and when Noni visited them she brought back souvenir dolls. Others in the family also traveled and brought back dolls, so there is a wide variety of unusual dolls in the collection. Noni died in 1953, so we expect all dolls date prior to the early 1950's, and some are much older. The dolls were finally inherited by the great granddaughter who was born in 1947, and are offered now for your consideration.
