Rare and Wonderful Antique Brazilian Handmade Folk Art Doll
As you can see by the pictures, the doll has a lot of character. There is an unbelievable amount of detail in both the doll and her clothing. I would love to have been able to add another dozen pictures, to show the beautiful laces that they have used to make her costume. She has lots of jewelry, a lace bodice and a very full skirt, and... adorable little slippers.
There are flaws, but keep in mind this doll is probably over 100 years old. Most obvious is the spot on her nose. The other fabrics have also worn out here and there. There is a fairly large hole in her skirt, and it is unclear why. Along the bottom of the skirt, and some of the edges, there are tiny worn spots. And the fragile lace in the bodice is worn. It looks like she might have had earrings, but they’re mostly fallen off. There is quite a bit of the decorative jewelry left, and some of the quill fingernails are visible.
The fabric of the cloth body, including the head, has faded over the years. Most of the other fabrics are quite bright.
I have no idea if this kind of doll was made for a specific purpose, or just for the delight of children. She is 20” tall.

I have a second similar doll on another listing. You might want to look it up and have a pair of them. They were both purchased in the 1950s at an antique shop in Rio de Janeiro.
The doll has been in a non-smoking home.
